How to test a hair routine in 30 days, the way you would test sleep

Wearable users learned to test one change at a time and read the trend, not the day. The same protocol applies to hair. A concrete 30-day plan, with or without a device.

People who track sleep eventually stop asking 'did I sleep well last night' and start asking 'what moves my average'. That shift, from days to trends, is the entire trick. Applied to hair it works the same way, and it takes about thirty days per experiment.

The protocol

Week zero: establish the baseline. Measure, or at minimum photograph, the same lock under the same conditions several times before changing anything. Without a baseline, whatever happens next is a story, not a result.

Then change exactly one thing. One. The cold-water rinse, or the new shampoo, or spacing the blow dryer to alternate days, but not all three, because if the trend moves you will not know which change moved it. This is the discipline every wearable taught its users, and it transfers unchanged.

Measure two to three times a week, always the same lock, always the same spot. Daily measurement is allowed but adds noise faster than signal: hair responds over days, not hours.

At day thirty, read the slope, not the endpoints. Comparing the single best day of week four to the single worst day of week one flatters any routine. The honest comparison is the average of the last week against the average of the first.

What a real result looks like

Expect small numbers. A shine average moving from 61 to 67 over a month is a genuine, visible result. Expect some pillars to stay flat: a rinse-temperature change plausibly moves surface and shine but should not move diameter, and a flat diameter is evidence the measurement is honest, not evidence the experiment failed.

Also expect null results, and treat them as wins. Discovering in thirty days that an expensive treatment moves nothing measurable is exactly the information the price tag was hiding. A null result that saves twenty euros a month is worth more than most positive ones.

Where a device fits

Everything above works with a phone camera and discipline. What a measuring clamp changes is the reliability of each point: same hundred strands held flat, same three lighting angles, twenty seconds, a number instead of an impression. The protocol stays yours either way. The device just removes the part where human patience fails, which, in our experience, is the part that fails first.
